The Romanian retail market will feel, in 2009, the effects of the economic crisis, when the effect of substitution of products will be experienced, and the players in this sector must not think of receiving aid from the state.
The evolution in the economy has mainly relied on consumption, and the toughening of crediting and its getting more expensive and the fall in consumption will show their negative consequences still more in 2009. In the past years the rise in consumption has been based on loans, which has led to an unhealthy economic growth. Market studies show that the financial stability of people is falling, with an important role in this process being played by the diminution in the market value of buildings. In
2009, an increased number of consumers will switch from luxury products to cheap ones, and the retail market will be affected also by a differentiated TVA level. The drop in the profit margins and the adjustment of sale spaces to the new market conditions and funding from or to suppliers are the main ways recommended by economic analysts to retailers for overcoming the crisis.
